Chapter one

The fracture

It begins with what she touched as a child - stones, shells in the sand, the bark of trees. Look closely and every painting is a landscape of cracks.

Morning Glory, a red and yellow painting with deeply crumpled texture
The surface is broken into a thousand facets. Yet the painting holds together. Light finds its way through the cracks.

Chapter two

The doorway

Again and again she frames her paintings with plain bands on either side. The edges are the everyday world. The column between them is a sacred space you look into.

Kailasha, an orange and red painting with a golden sun holding a dark blue form

Chapter three

The source

A sun. A moon. A seed. The circle returns in painting after painting - wholeness, the origin, the point everything grows from.

Submerged Beauty, a glowing blue and yellow orb Morning Glory, a rising sun over layered earth Balance of Light, a blue sphere sunk into a golden horizon
Submerged BeautyThe circle as a sun seen from under water
Morning GloryThe circle as the rising sun
Balance of LightThe circle as the world, balanced on the horizon
Chapter four

The flow

Water flows, fire rises, light pours down. Her strokes move like music - she says every stroke is a note.

Chapter five

Where light becomes silence

Over the years her colour has quietened. The same idea - balance, light, the horizon - is now painted in black and white. Expression has become contemplation.
